CENTRAL AMERICA / Costa Rica

Bound on by Nicaragua to the north, the Caribbean Sea and Panama to the east, and , and the Pacific Ocean to the south and west, the Central American republic of Costa Rica is one of the few Central American nations to sustain long-term political stability. Geographically, Costa Rica is known for its jungles, mountains and forests, and of course its “rich coast” of incredible beaches. A beautiful place, with beautiful people, and the highest level of prosperity in Central America -- one might forget the fact that Costa Rica is still a “third world” country, where the poor far outnumber the middle class and rich. A place to enjoy, a people to serve … a place where you can truly make a difference for the sake of the Gospel.

PHōS offers a semester of ministry and cultural exploration in the beauty and diversity of Costa Rica. Through a combination of study, service, travel, and lively interaction with local residents, we’ll together begin to experience the richness of Costa Rican life!

The PHōS program in Costa Rica is based in the central valley area called Desamparados, on the outskirts of the capital city of San José. It is a mountainous region with higher altitudes (3,000 feet above sea level).
